AC/DC’s Brian Johnson Joins Muse, Electrifies Reading Festival

Brian Johnson made a surprise return to one of the world’s largest stages by performing “Back in Black”. The former AC/DC singer joined MUSE on stage Sunday night (27th August 2017) at the Reading Festival in England. The Reading Festival surprise was one of just a handful of performances Johnson has delivered since being forced to retire last year due to hearing problems. The crowd cheered every one of Johnson’s moves and sang along with the song’s famous guitar riff. After the song, a clearly thrilled Johnson declared, “That means a lot to me, thank you so much, thank you boys!”

During March 2016 AC/DC postponed the final ten dates of the Rock or Bust World Tour after doctors told Johnson, he faced a total loss of hearing if he did not stop touring immediately. On 16 April 2016, AC/DC released a statement announcing the addition of Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose as the band’s lead vocalist for the remainder of their 2016 tour dates. The tour was completed with GUNS N’ ROSES singer Axl Rose as a “guest vocalist” and Johnson apparently not returning to the group.

On 19 April 2016, Johnson officially acknowledged his ongoing hearing difficulties but stated his intentions to continue recording and potentially resume touring. He also thanked Angus Young and Cliff Williams for their support during his AC/DC tenure.
